(no subject)
My life is so by the numbers these days that it's kind of hard to, I guess, journal on the regular. Nothing notable really happens to me! Goodness am I happier with nothing happening to me than with a ton of things happening to me though.
Let's see... hopefully in October I'll get to see Queens of the Stone Age over in Fayetteville. Ever since I moved to Arkansas like three years ago, I've been to one show, They Might Be Giants over in Tulsa. If I go see QotSA it'll be two. I've missed quite a few tours due to not having any transportation, since no one really comes and plays in this part of Arkansas.
After a disappointing showing from The Veils, I didn't really think much of any other albums this year. I don't keep up with music anymore though, so it was a surprise when Daft Punk, QotSA, The National, and Fall Out Boy all released albums all around the same time. They were all solid, enjoyable albums, too. The new Fall Out Boy has a particular place in my heart, and I just heard the new National today. It's another sort of homogeneous sad sounding drone, very like High Violet, but I don't begrudge The National for what they are, I guess. Someday when I'm feeling real down I'm sure it'll be just the thing.
It was nice to get so much new music at once, anyway. I've been moping about not keeping up with the "cutting edge" of the bands and genres I care about, despite listening to a lot of new-ish things on Spotify the past few months.
Spotify has spotty (haha) recommendations though, unfortunate for an otherwise pretty great streaming service. I wasn't even sure where to get started to be active in finding music again though, so I tried Pitchfork. And hey, new Franz Ferdinand soon.
2013 is not the musical bust I thought it was going to be, in my ignorance. Even so, I've had a ton of nostalgia issues where I just want bands to be in the same mindset they were in ten years ago and release a bunch of albums that sound the same. Kind of dumb, I'll admit, but it is what it is.
My night is going to be me sifting through the new releases as listed on Pitchfork and seeing if I find anything new to like. Gotta keep up somehow! That said, if anyone has any recommendations, well. I'll listen to anything once.
