I'm catching up a bit on post-Godzilla 2000 Godzilla movies. First up: Godzilla, Mothra, and King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack, known for short among kaijuistes as GMK. Now this combines the awesomeness of the 2K version of Godzilla with the awesomeness of Shusuke Kaneko, auteur of the '90s Gamera trilogy. So, given this big a supply of raw awesomium to work with........ how, how how how how how, HOW could the result have turned out SO FUCKING BAD??? It just completely stunk.
Well, there was one cool bit at the end. Atomic fistula. But on the other hand, the score was so weak that... well, this morning I watched The Beast Of Yucca Flats and it had better music than GMK did. And there were so many scenes of apparent-death-followed-by-resurrection that, though no individual scene was too blatantly Jesusoid, by the end the Christometer was showing a cumulative reading in the region of three or four thousand milliNeos -- a level only matched by Superman Returns in recent memory.
And turning Ghidorah into a good guy? What the WTF, dude.
