Chapter writing is a long, long process for me.

preliminary notes
mental view of the scene
first sentences, drafts, notes
figuring out the chapter's "spine"
corrections (*snigger* and not something else)
getting the text up to my expectations
more corrections
getting the settings description to fit the narration
filling blanks between sentences/lines/whatever
more corrections

And so forth, until the thing is satisfactory.
