Asher, my doubt-sharing buddy, is majoring in biomedical ethics. Last night I off-handedly quipped to a third party in a voice loud enough for him to hear that I didn't see how you could do work in applied ethics without first solving the metaethical problem.
In response, he quoted Chris Hill, the crazy-brilliant professor who taught the epistemology class we took together years ago, before we knew each other:
"I don't know if this chair exists. I just don't know! But--dammit!--I'm going to sit in it anyway!"
