I think that it's more important that society be structured so that individuals and groups are treated fairly in general than that the individuals and groups that are currently being treated unfairly be reprieved.

There's a sense in which I believe that "because" I'm "normal" demographically--white straight male middle class. Yay! (That I am a weirdo despite my demographics doesn't seem to factor into the naive form of this analysis...why?)

There's also a sense in which I believe that "because" of justificatory reasons for that position. For example, I believe that a policy or activity that promotes an individual group over others will generally speaking have pernicious effects down the line as the balance of power changes. Formerly oppressed groups become more autonomous and seek to maintain power over new underclasses.

Is it incorrect--socially, morally, whatever--to employ generalized or abstracted reasoning to dismiss genuinely intended projects that have been motivated by personally felt oppression by persons as members of a particular group?
