Traveling as an experiment

May 28, 2010 10:58

I am in Los Angeles now because I am in the wedding party for Howard Prospect's wedding on Sunday. Last night was the bachelor party. In an hour we are getting our tuxedo's fitted. Right now I am listening to a roommate's--the best man who I meant once before several years ago--alarm go off repeatedly. He sleeps through it. I have been up for several hours already to shower and write a letter.

I used to scoot up and down the east coast somewhat regularly, I recall, but have been stuck in NYC for several months before Lima and now this. The travel is good for me. It's as if only by pulling myself out of an evolving context do I understand what changes are environmental and what changes are in me. Scientific experimentation with selfhood, complete with manipulation and control.

I have been pleasantly surprised.

howard prospect, travel
