Pathfinders in Space (cont.)

Up to episode 5 (of 7) now.  The strange rocket in lunar orbit (yes, it was dumbbell shaped) is thought to be derelict, but our intrepid heroes have found another one hidden in a cave on the moon.  The cave was some sort of base for travellers from who knows where, and one of the scientists reckons its been there for 400 million years.  (Curiously, one of the crew actually says, "Nearly half a billion years ago,"  Apparently the US meaning of a billion had made inroads into the UK fifty years ago.)

Inside the cave they find the petrified remains of one of the mysterious aliens, very humanoid, and - a nice touch - some children's toys and a spelling primer which gives them an insight into the writing they've found.  One of the toys is a sort of teddy bear, but with six legs and a snout.  Can't help thinking that these days, they would have marketed the toy as a tie-in.

There's a character called Ian who has the Michael Collins role and been left guarding one of the rockets whilst everyone else has been having adventures.  He plays a game of chess with one of the ground crew, who is cheating by using a computer, but then a comic Russian (complete with picture of Khrushchev on the wall behind him) calls him up with advice from a grandmaster.

Now they have found a reel of what may be a videotape and they are just about to look at it.  But Earth are trying to warn them a meteorite storm is on the way.
