Congenial

so I'm at Congenial now.  Travelled up this afternoon - wow, King's Cross has changed since I was there at Christmas.  Decided to walk from the station, remembering that it was not far.  It seemed further this time.  It is 15 years since I was last here and the universe has expanded in that time.

When I got to my room, I had to change my shirt, I was so damp, and not from rain.

At some point in the afternoon, I got volunteered for Green Room.  Well, actually, I was Green Room.  Only me working there, greeting the panellists and buying the drinks.  Only two items to Green Room this evening, and I was able to close down and go and eat between them.

Michael Abbott ran a fiendish All Fours quiz, which was based around the number four.  I'm not too annoyed that one of the links was from Fourth Mansions, by R.A. Lafferty.  Lafferty may be one of my favourite authors, but it must be forty years since I last read that particular book.  And being put on the spot and asked to name a LeGuinn book that it is likely no-one else has named was terrible.  Suddenly, the only book by her I could remember was The Left Hand of Darkness.  Finally thought of The Lathe of Heaven, which turned out to be not too bad a choice.

Coming back to my room just now, the corridor outside are operated by motion sensors and as you walk along the corridor, the lights come on in front of you.  Until I got to my room, and the lights there stayed off.  I had to put my glasses on and kneel on the floor to be able to see the lock so that I could put the key in.  As soon as I opened the door, the corridor light outside came on.
