MY culture is Youth Culture!

I wonder if there will ever be an acceptable way to confide that you've developed a crush on someone because of his MySpace. Actually, the blog on his MySpace, but the principal is the same: when will the internet have legitimacy?! I spend at least two hours online each day, yet somehow whenever I let it slip into my conversation I have to use these bashful, self-aware tones. "Hee, yeah, I actually know who that is... I saw her on the facebook" (fake blushing). It seems like there is this odd collective agreement not to talk about it, but if you accidentally talk about it, pretend like you don't take it seriously. Maybe I'm over-invested or something, but to me it is a significant part of my daily life.

ON THE OTHER HAND

facebook is shit. It sucks my time and makes me illiterate. I like livejournal; occasionally there is really great writing. And finding journals randomly makes the whole blogging thing interesting. Networking sites are just... vapid. It's an amusing diversion but, ugh. I end up thinking I know people and am consistently proved wrong.

ON THE OTHER HAND

I'm considering getting a MySpace and a last.fm to aid my fantasy that I have an audience of internet admirers. I change my AIM profile and imagine that the people I investigate on facebook/AIM/MySPace are reciprocating. "Don't let me lo-oooose this dream..."

I'm ADD these days.
