Today I looked at my patio and saw this bird hopping around, apparently foraging for ants. As usual, I am mystified regarding the type of avian represented by this specimen. Probably not a penguin, turkey, duck, or ostritch...I can recognize them (two times out of three, anyway.) Probably not a woodpecker, since it was hunting for its prey with a stabbing, twisting motion, not hammering away at the space between the bricks. Not especially brightly-colored, except for stylish yellow racing stripes on its wings, and a red triangle on the back of its head, that made it look like somebody had painted a red beak for comedic effect.
It also had a black crescent-shaped "bib" which gives it a jolly "smiling cyclops" look, in the picture below.
Anybody know wha' kinda bird this is?
