The Ikea Expedition

Aug 06, 2006 06:08

On Friday I went with my mother for our first visit to the new Ikea store in Canton. I really enjoyed it. I don't usually enjoy shopping that much, but this trip was nice. Of course, any excursion away from home these days is a treat.

She had me drive. It was the first time I'd been that far west on I-94 in almost two years. It brought up memories of all my trips to and from Ann Arbor over the past 18 years. If I'd been driving alone, I probably would have gotten emotional about it. Even driving over the newly paved road east of Telegraph brought on a twinge of sadness, as I recalled how rough that stretch had been during all those drives in the past.
