The wishgranting time at the Summer Wishlist Event on
rarepair_shorts and
rarepair_shorts is now over. And there are 32 gift works in
this year's collection on AO3.
I've been thrilled to receive three fabulous gifts.
Floating by
digthewriter (Cho/Luna)
A dazzling digital painting with all the light, movement and contrasts I could wish for in a portrayal of my favourite rare femslash pair in Harry's generation.
Interesting Mistakes (Remus/George) by
kelly_chamblissA wonderful second-person voice for post-canon Lupin, and a surprising and perfect pairing that makes me feel happy for my OTC.
"Okay, fine, it's harder than it looks." (Remus/James) by
mywitchA brilliant and humorous line drawing... which includes more and less skillfully-drawn portraits by the characters
.
Thank you so much again, my amazing, generous friends!
Myself I somehow finally succeeded in posting one little fic for the event. I chose to try and grant a wish made by someone who hadn't got a gift yet. The pairing is not very rare - but I was glad to pick one that a few other participants, too, had wished for.

evening12Title: The Right Choice
Pairing: Ginny/Luna
Request/Prompt Used: I've paired the first two in the list of characters, and there's something related to these likes: friends to lovers, first date, post-Hogwarts, hobbies and careers, happy endings.
Rating: G
Word Count 500
Summary: In July 2007, at the end of a dinner party in the orchard, Ginny may start guiding Luna in a new direction.
Notes: The perspective is an outsider's, whose identity is ambiguous. This is an odd little piece, all I managed to write for the event this year, and I can only hope that the recipient (and others who've wished for the pairing) won't find my Ginny/Luna or the narrator here too jarring.

The Right Choice
Watch the two of them fly away side by side! Luminous Luna - the light of... not only your life. Ginevra with ginger braids is now her new beacon.
With almost ten years of experience in professional Quidditch, she's the right choice for a flying instructor. She's not placing a hand on Luna's, not assisting in steering. Instead...
After initial bewilderment at the suggestion, she's been willing to give the first lesson immediately, as soon as you've all finished your pudding (strawberries with cream). And she's started by trailing her fingers down Luna's chest, to her waist and lower.
“This is where reliable control of your broom must derive from,” she said, blushing. “Here, and deeper, in the centre of your power.”
Luna nodded solemnly, but there was joy in her wide eyes. She looked more dazzling than ever in the dappled light, here in the orchard, where you've once again hosted together a fun dinner party for friends and family.
She asked who would like to come along and see - at first to follow her to where her broomstick usually wanders. "I imagine it enjoys its rest on the stone bench by the sheep shed," she deadpanned, only to burst in bubbling laughter when Ginevra rolled her eyes. "You can help me remember it's not a beast with a mind of its own."
She must be happy to renew the close friendship they developed as schoolgirls, when learning defence in the clandestine army and when joining in that fateful rescue mission in 1996. Even though they had been neighbours, the two witches barely knew each other before Hogwarts.
Maybe Ginevra, growing with a wild group of brothers, got so used to playing only with boys that she continued to feel awkward about bonding with girls. Perhaps she didn't know all the reasons why, until after she's been hired by the Holyhead Harpies and got involved in romantic relationships between witches. Only recently has she come out as bisexual.
Her hand was stroking the small of Luna's back when they pushed off the grassy ground at the edge of the pasture.
Now they are hovering, checking their balance, with gazes and smiles locked. Some of the sheep stand near, staring up, like all other friends and family members, including the little ones. You alone have stayed back.
Lean against the trunk of this old apple tree, one of your favourites! Its fruit are ripe early: White Transparents. They'd bruise easily, and you've done your best to take care of them.
Luna's floated from love to love, and back to you again as well. She will soon soar - now out over the woods, and soon in quest of new wondrous creatures. What this other bright witch can offer her will keep her safer on her field trips, and secure in a long amazing life beside a partner who'll prosper and grow old with her.
You find solace in caressing the fragile skin of an apple that glows like the moon. Having made friends with change, you'll have the strength to let her go.
