duh!

On Monday, after DNA testing showed no link between the DNA on JonBenet's underwear and that of Karr, the murder charges against Karr were dropped.
As simple as this protocol procedure and resultant decision seems, there has been some civil unrest, apparently, on behalf of Karr's extradition from Thailand back to the United States. The district attorney who made the decision to bring Karr in, Mary Lacy, is the victim of some ludicrous citizen outrage over the rights violated in this action, namely that he was arrested and extradited with no evidence against him.
It is true that Karr was arrested as a result of his confession and without the completion of an investigation, the established procedure. However, while this one action, his arrest, was done without the aforementioned established procedure, the actions taken in this case by the district attorney are in alignment with protocol and more importantly: Logic.
When Karr admitted to the murder of JonBenet Ramsey to the Associated Press, the District Attorney made the decision to have him arrested and brought in to further investigate this lead in the case, in essence, to complete the established procedure. It would have been negligent to not have brought him in in order to further advance the case.
Even so, there are circumstances that mandate an arrest before an investigation is complete. In this case, the circumstance is public safety. When an individual confesses to the lewd and violent acts that Karr confessed to against this innocent six-year old child, it is only logical that he is removed from society for the protection of its members. Our judicial system is in place to protect our citizens, and the protection of our children, one of our most vulnerable sectors, should be a priority.
Karr's arrest was not a murder charge. It was simply an action towards public safety. The public was warned, by both Lacey and John Ramsey, against jumping to conclusions. Consistent with human nature, conclusions were drawn regardless of these warnings. This is more of an outrage against Karr than arresting him because it is a direct judgement and not an action for further investigation.
