Is Facebook too Shallow?

Nov 08, 2011 22:12

Lots of people post things on Facebook these days. You see all kinds of "like" this if you hate broccoli or somesuch. But is it too easy to 'like' something and not actually have to DO any sort of thinking? Most of the time people just seem to read what's there and go 'fuck that! those bastards!' without ever looking into the actual issue. I think its pretty common knowledge that every media organization has some sort of slant on every issue they report. Some try to toe the neutrality line, and some do a very good job of that. Others have an agenda and are agressively pursuing it. It seems like nobody has the time or inclination to look and think about the issues on their own.

I think this is one of the downsides of our wired world. It's too easy to see an issue, make a snap decision and 'like' it... all without knowing what the hell it is you are actually doing. For somethings, sure, its not a big deal. But sometimes little issues can swell into big ones, especially if you don't know what in the hell you are agreeing too.

It's not like this is something I can do anything about. I can't, and really never will be able to do anything about it.

But on the bright side, my kitty just hopped on my desk to provide with moral support while writing this. Ah, its good to be alive some days.
