The Weekly JS Bach Cantata: No.190 "Singet dem Herrn ein neues Lied"
Johann Sebastian Bach wrote over 300 cantatas during his lifetime; today, almost 200 survive. Each Cantata is for a different Sunday within the Lutheran Church year. So, with this, I'll be uploading the cantata for the date.
This week's Cantata is No.190, or "Singet dem Herrn ein neues Lied", which is written for New Year's Day, which is rather apropos given the text of the cantata: Sing to the Lord a new song. The cantata was first performed 1 January 1724 in Leipzig, and contains texts parapharased from Psalms 149 and 150.
