I went to see 'Honey and Clover' with friends today which was part of Japanese Movie Festival organised annually by Japan Foundation. The movie was great (as usual) but what I encountered at the event was not that impressive. It was no big deal really, but I just couldn't really understand why and what's the point.
I am no innocent when it comes to fangirls since I am quite familiar with fandom since I was a teenager. I heard of so many nasty things but this is like really the first time of me experiencing it. It might be just a little deal but I dun see why it is necessary for certain Arashi fan to sorta bad-mouth my friend. Probably she was mad coz we got advance tickets for this movie screening? But then again, this movie is free and it's not like they have never seen it before. It would be understandable if she did not get ticket to see movie but apparantly she did. So, tell me why she has to be sarcastic when my friend was nicely asking if she got ticket as a little chit chat?
And why would she and her friends giving me and friends nasty look? now this is what I don't get. I tried to come up with reason why they had to give us the look when we just mind our own business. I'm not 12 and this is not a playground for them to start any bully or pick up a fight. They are pretty much university graduates so can't they act mature? I have heard a lot of reputations of these particualr Arashi fangirls but I thought as long as I'm minding my own business, problems should never happen. But now it's like....what's the deal here? I really don't understand what me and friends did wrong. Was it because we are Arashi fans but we never befriend with them since they claimed to be one of the oldest and biggest group of fans here? or was it because one of my friends did better in organising Arashi related event than them? I tried to be positive about them when I heard bad things about them but seemed like what other people said about them were right. Narrow-minded fangirls.
You know, I really hate these fangirls who always claimed they are the biggest fans just because they have liked them for so long and those fans who think they are superior than others just because they got a chance to see or meet the bands personally. Such things approve nothing about how big or great fan you are. Every fan is the same; the fans in Japan and the fans in USA. We all are equal coz afterall we are FANS. I think it is such a pity for those people who think they are better than other fans for above reasons. I can't believe I have met them 10 years ago and I still meet/see such people now. In a way, I think I just lost faith to fandom.
P.s. I would like to thank A-chan from Japan Foundation, Thailand for slipping the idea of 'Honey and Clover' to your boss. Thanks for the opportunity for us to see Sakurai in big screen! Too bad you have to stay at the ticket hand-out booth while the movie was showing but we'll enjoy some Sakurai moment together later on eh? XD
