Hello my bratkartoffeln! How are we all today?
So yeah, this is just a general news update, because I've got a bit lazy about that.
So, I've had the last two days off school, which is very, very enjoyable. Today is sciopero, which is why I'm not at school (that and the fact it is PISSING DOWN outside - the type of rain where you get soaked just running to the car), and yesterday is a bit more complicated. So, I fully intended to go to school, I got up at the crack of dawn even DESPITE having gone to bed past midnight (more on that later), got dressed, toddled off to school in the RAIN, showed up at school, and... my class wasn't there. Like, none of them. Understandably confused, I texted one of my classmates.
Me: So, where is everyone?
Her: Are you at school? But Clare, didn't you know we don't have to start until ten today?
Me: WHUT?
Her: I'm soooo sorry, I thought someone told you!
Me: *grrrrh, gnashes teeth* It's fine! Hope I didn't wake you up (go die in a hole, ALL OF YOU)
So I went all the way home again, and then fell asleep, waking up at ten thirty. Then I decided that it was obviously not to be that I went to school that day, so I watched Joan of Arcadia and Gilmore Girls instead. Joan of Arcadia is awesome, by the way. Oh, and i studied for a couple of hours as well, cos I felt bad.
Weds, I went out with the Mogliano rugby club for dinner in some flash seafood restaurant in Mestre. It's not as interesting as it sounds, because it was only actually the admin wing of the rugby club, not the players, but the food was OMG SO GOOOD. We got there at eight, started eating at nine, and left at MIDNIGHT, with still TWO courses to go (I asked the waiter). We ate SO MUCH, i kept expecting someone to make like the Romans and throw up so they could eat a bit more, but no. It was incredibly good food, though: lots of prawns and shrimps (although the amount of work it takes to get the meat out of shrimps is just ridiculous) and fish and shellfish and octopi and all sorts of funky seafood stuff. And I managed to wangle some tiramisù to finish.
Tuesday: It was our first Italian lesson with Alvaro aka Albero aka new boy at Italian. He is so good at Italian already that I'm madly jealous. His grandparents are Italian, so he learned a bunch from them before coming here and all that. Also I went to the rugby club dopo Italiano to check up on Riaan, with...mixed success. We spoke briefly, but I swear, I would have better luck talking to a brick wall. it was like:
Me: So hows it going?
Him: Oh, good, yeah
Me: Picked up some more Italian? Sorry, I forgot the notes I said I'd bring you
Him: Oh nah, it's cool, I'm getting there
Me: (running out of stuff to say) So, looking forward to playing on Sunday? I might come down and watch if it's not too cold.
Him: Oh yeah
Us: *stand there awkwardly for a bit*
Him: *wanders off to play with weights - on a side note, DAMN that boy is fit)
I think at least part - perhaps even all - of the problem is he's actually really shy. Tat's just the impression I got, because he reminded me a lot of how *I* act when I'm being shy. And while I can talk quite easily to people if they talk back to me, when all he says is yes or no, my limited conversational skills fail as well. Silly boys.
And other stuff has happened as well, none of which has been terribly important. I went to a real live italian friend's house on Sunday, which was good fun. I really wish she was in my class so I could see her more often, but thems the breaks I guess.
What else....Christmas soon, I'm sending my presents this arvo, hopefully they'll make it in time but I doubt it. Oh well. It's the though that counts, right? And now I'm going to go and have breakfast because I'm HUNGRY.
