The Fraud Police

Ever feel like you don't know what the hell you are doing?

I do.

I'm writing my first novel. I honestly don't know what the fuck I am doing.

Just yesterday, I realized I had to delete about forty pages and entirely rewrite them so that two plot points (that were not giant holes) could blend even better within the structure of the tale I'm telling. And this is fine. It is a part of rewriting, but HELL, could I not have figured this shit out TWO YEARS AGO...I mean, these plot connections seem so fucking obvious. I mean, wouldn't a real writer have figured all this out sooner?

But you know what? That's ok. The writing is getting done, albeit slowly sometimes. And I am a "real writer." A real writer writes. They sit their ass in the chair, often, and get shit done. Which I am.

Here's Amanda Palmer giving a commencement speech about the "fraud police." It's for everyone out there who has ever felt like someday, eventually, someone is going to call you out on the fact that you are making shit up as you go along.
