Ok, I've been pushed to the limit with political correctness. I'm sure most of you will agree that I am the least PC person you know, and I've never bought into this movement in these past few years. Why, if our country has always been such a melting pot, have they decided within the last 10 years to neutralize everything that could even have the slightest tinge of religion to it? What's got me all riled up now is the saga of the Christmas tree. Did you know, our national Christmas tree in Washington isn't really a Christmas tree at all? No, its called a freakin' Holiday Tree. Why are they taking the word Christmas out of everything?! Because there is a small minority of people who cry foul when something irritates them? Wake up people! I would daresay that 85% of all Americans celebrate Christmas in some fashion or another, and we're worrying about the other 15% being pissed off? To further my point of this substituition of the word "holiday" for "christmas", I heard a commerical on the radio the other day where a mother says to her son, "I want to know what to get you for the holidays!" Seriously, who says that?! No one I know. "What do you want for CHRISTMAS," is what I hear.
We're going to have to realize 100% of the people aren't going to be happy 100% of the time. So why are we changing the longstanding traditions of this country? The dissenters need to get over it- you're living in a country where the predominant religion is Christianity and that majority of the people celebrate Christmas. Tough.
Oh, that Menorah the Jews use? The word "Menorah" kinda offends me because I'm scared of things that are different than me and rather than just dealing with it, I'm going to raise a stink. Can we just call that a candlestick? Thank you.
