Go for a walk

The other day, Lorie told me she read an article somewhere saying that the life expectancy was expected to drop as much as five years. "We're all unhealthy, lazy, and stressed out" she said.

Maybe not all of us, but definitely most of us.

But she's right. And since that conversation last Saturday, I've been thinking about it a lot and talking to other people about it too. And I have found that most people I know are unhealthy, lazy, and stressed out.

We live in a world now where we sit on our asses while we socialize online for hours. I remember when I used to hang out with my friends and we'd go DO something. And the guys I know, they don't play basketball on the courts anymore. They play basketball on their Playstations. We don't even get out of our cars when we want food. "Hey, give me a number 6 and supersize it!" Dunkin Donuts even has a drive thru now. We complain about not having time to exercise but we don't even take advantage of just a little bit when we can. Hey, get out of the car and walk to the counter to get your donut! Work those arms by opening up that heavy door! Then again, if you're eating donuts, getting healthy probably isn't on your priority list.

And despite all the warnings, we still smoke - whatever the cost - we're still buying cigarettes and smoking them. And I've asked several people in the last few days, "Do you take multivitamins?" And not one person said yes. People don't care. I don't understand why they don't, but they don't seem phased by it as they sit in front of their TVs playing video games and eating their meat lovers pizzas that were conveniently delivered right to their doors.

And today's biggest diet craze is the unhealthiest one yet. Hey, you guys - you do realize Dr. Atkins had heart disease, right? FYI: Carbs don't make you fat. Laziness makes you fat.

I don't think that people realize that there is a much greater cost for all this convenience. And folks, it's more valuable than money.

I don't know about you, but I would hate to think that my life is half over already. And I'm going to make sure mine isn't.
