Ugh.

This is my opinion, it's alright if you don't agree. I'm up for hearing what anyone thinks but not up for anyone insulting me for what I think...

Words cannot begin to express the disappointment I feel after watching this movie. From the cheap transitions (or lack thereof), to the horrible dialogue, where can I even begin? I think that this was an insult to Stephenie Meyer... They took her amazing books and turned them into a film that only middle and high schoolers could love (no offense to any middle or high schoolers that may ever come across this).

I thought Robert Pattinson was a talented actor after seeing him play Cedric Diggory so there is no doubt in my mind that he is talented, however I don't feel this was the right role for him. He was incredibly awkward (too much awkwardness, even for someone struggling not to bite and kill someone else). I feel the passion between him and Kristen was extremely forced. In the book, the love and passion are evident and I can picture them perfectly. Kristen, as Bella, was decent, all aspects considered. There were points at which yes, she does seem like a total amateur but, that kind of IS Bella. She's awkward and meek; I think Kristen did a good job at portraying that. I also felt more passion coming from her part than from Rob's. Maybe it's because she's a better actress than he is an actor (don't kill me for saying this). Also, I'm not sure if it was because he was trying to suppress his accent to the point where his speech was EXTREMELY slow, but everything coming out of Robert's mouth was so delayed and slow, it seemed way too thought out. Edward is supposed to be a little more... suave than what Robert portrayed, at least in my idea of what Edward Cullen is like.

As for the other actors, not much to say considering I barely saw them, which was pretty disappointing. From the little that I did see of them, I loved Charlie, Rosalie, and Alice. Taylor Lautner did a great job, though the wig wasn't working out so well for him. Emmet seemed a little fake to me but I still liked him, I guess I'll admit that I'm shallow in the sense that I'd be satisfied watching horrible actors as long as they're as good looking as Kellan Lutz or Jackson Rathbone. I'm not saying that they're horrible actors but really, what was up with Jasper's faces? Yes, I know he's supposed to be in pain... Yes, I know he's supposed to be suppressing his cravings but really, could he have looked less attractive? It's not about how attractive he looks, I know, but I guess I just pictured something completely different.

As challenging as it is for a director to present images as perfectly as I see them in my mind, I really gave Catherine Hardwicke too much credit. I hated the camera angles, the insanely quick cuts, the lack of transitions, and most of all, how much they crammed into two hours. Don't tell me there wasn't enough space for everything when there were plenty of pointless scenes with Bella and Charlie eating in the diner and the shameless plug Stephenie Meyer attempted to make in her short (and pathetic) cameo.

Here's to them RUINING the meadow scene, by the way! I pictured the sparkles way differently and I hated watching this scene. It was completely ruined, they turned it around completely. Also, Jacob is supposed to dance with Bella and that's what creates the INCREASING tension in New Moon. Jacob not dancing with her at the end really annoyed me, considering it's a pivotal aspect of Jacob and Edward's relationship/conflict. Also, closing in on Edward's face in the bio classroom scene was horrible. As my best friend pointed out to me, they should have focused on his hand breaking the desk or something a little more dramatic, rather than his face looking like he was about to vomit and in turn, making me want to vomit. Something else that bothered me, THE DREAMS! I hated that dream where she was dressed flapper-esque and he was biting her on that old style couch... Horrible! I do, however, like how they left the ending set up for Victoria to seek vengeance. I can only hope the directors are somehow switched, as well as the screenplay writers... Something else that kind of sucked, for anyone who didn't read the books anyway, is that there was very little explanation. If you didn't read the book, you're pretty much screwed, not to mention lost the whole way through.

All in all, had I not read the books, I may have liked the movie more but after devoting a week of my life to the series, not to mention the countless months waiting for the film and gushing and giggling over Robert Pattinson youtube videos, I am not pleased. I very excitedly purchased my $7.50 ticket, as well as my $3 cookie dough bites and all I got back was some disappointment and 660 calories (I'm not exaggerating). I have more chemistry with my best friend (who is also a straight female) than Kristen and Robert had together.

I really can't even picture what Hardwicke will do to New Moon... I admit, I'll watch it at midnight and purchase cookie dough bites all over again because of curiosity, but I really have no faith in her abilities at this point. Can any of you picture the Volutri scenes?! Really?! I don't think they'll be able to live up to my expectations, nor do I think Robert Pattinson is capable of living up to my idea of Edward struggling, arguing, and debating for Bella's sake. I don't want to see his face looking nauseous, ready to vomit. I want to see him more relaxed and natural looking, kind of like what an actor is supposed to be like. I think because the movie was so hyped up, I expected something so much greater. I'm sincerely hoping the next one will give me a little peace of mind and not leave me DYING to read Twilight again. I'll also be hoping to have less 13 year olds in the theater, giggling every time Edward attempts at kissing Bella >.<
