So I went to a WW2 reenactment with the Grossdeutschland division of reenactors.
Some great pix even if I didn't make it into any.  Take a look.

Also, I attempted to use the cut feature.  I hope it worked.  If not, I'm not putting the pictures back in for a third time.  Sorry.

Yeah, ww2. I am reenacting the German division of Grossdeutschland. They were the equiv. of the American marines during ww2 for Germany. They served with a great amount of pride for their country, not necessarily the skewed political view of Hitler, as many of them were taken from Austria and other surrounding areas without consent of their political view.

For reenacting, we try to understand what it was like for the German soldier of ww2, while likewise, the Americans, British and Russians do the same for their impression. It is an educational experience for the participants as well as the public.

This site, http://www.grossdeutschland.com/ , outlines the goals of the unit in their demonstrations of reenacting. We have a good time with each other as well as combat veterans who talk to us about their experiences and enlighten us about the war and times.

I'm sorry if you object, however one can not ignore the price paid by the soldiers that died on both sides. A fantastic book about these men is called The Forgotten Soldier by a guy named Sajer. About a french man impressed into the Grossdeutschland division during the war and his experiences.
