it's been a month
this weekend i went to the city of cork to visit katie's friends and kiss the blarney stone and all that good stuff. i decided to put my gift of gab to good use by updating the journal.
the weekend was great. katie's friends are awesome for letting us sleep on their floor, but poor alisha broke her foot on thursday so she was hobbling around. blarney castle was beautiful especially the groves and rocks and everything around the castle. climbing the stairs in the castle was probably one of the scariest things i have ever done, they were very winding and slippery and steep. the only railing is a rope in the middle. the view from the top was brilliant though and worth the trek. on sunday kathleen and i decided to go to kinsale a cute little beach town. i must return someday when it's warm, i bet it's great.
my classes are going well. the final list of classes is as follows: social movements, contemporary social issues, women in irish society, rise of modern america, two irelands in the 20th century and social psych. i think it's a good mix and i will know more about ireland when i am done than most irish people do. i guess that's the point of study abroad.
i really think i'm starting to settle in. i'm feeling more comfortable with my surroundings and making friends who i really like. i feel like it took me a while to reach this point. when i first started at stonehill all this stuff seemed so easy and here i really had to work at it.
i have some wonderful plans for the next few months. i'm going to the aran islands and belfast with arcadia. i want to see waterford and i'm going to patricia's sister-in-law's in limerick at some point too. after that i will have seen most of the country.
i should be taking some trips to paris and spain as well. i havn't figured out what i'm going to do for spring break cause my family is coming right in the middle and i have two papers due while my family is here. part of me thinks i should stick around or just travel a little during the first week so i have time to write papers and things. i don't know. it will all work out i guess. i'm really trying to go with the flow.
the next few months are full of promise, and if they are as good as this past month has been, i couldn't ask for more.
