Cindy, my sister-in-law in England, has relapsed severely; she has an antibiotic-resistant infection, is in a medically-induced coma to encourage healing, and the chances of her surviving are "somewhat less than 50%," as my brother-in-law states with his usual reserve. He also says that the NHS is now fully engaged at the level of the highest specialists. Both of her children are making plans to be in Birmingham the next few days; son lives in Leeds and daughter outside Northampton. There is no time line here -- we just don't know if or when anything will happen in any direction. There are few things that feel as helpless as that.
Jen's Dad, Cindy's brother, has already left for England; Jen is working to expedite Jack's passport on an emergency basis to follow as soon as possible. I am at her disposal, with the exception of my various job interviews & such, to assist in getting things moving smoothly for her. I am also handling any communications glitches that happen between those traveling and the folks at the other end, since I am generally accessible most of the time.
Clearly, we are all doing what we can, both physically and spiritually. All of you have been so supportive, I can only ask for your continued support. Cindy's prayer circle at her church is holding a round-the-clock vigil; one of my sisters, bless her, called her women's prayer group in her diocese and they held a prayer service in the Lady Chapel tonight.
