1. Best and worst changes in the SCA since you started playing?
   Best Change: People actually doing the "educational" part, not only using the amazing, rich tapestry of period sources available today, but also bringing up their children to think of authenticity and the "code of chivalry" ethic that we supposedly believe in.
   Worst Change:So many rules, especially pay-to-play.
2. What got you into period cooking?
   Duchess Caellyn FitzHugh, back in Northwoods. "Oh, look, I'm cooking the Twelfth Night feast this weekend, you'll enjoy helping me make 350 individual standing pies using clean cat food cans as forms. Will you please boil this mixture of water and lard for me? See, we cut out little chickens to put on them to show that they're chicken, because of course people couldn't read back then. Isn't that neat? And then we're going to make 800 yrchouns, so all we have to do is spice up that 30 lbs of ground pork and then make them into little egg shapes. See how we use these slivered almonds and little currants to make them look like little hedge hogs? That's the kind of period presentation that they really used. Isn't that neat? I really appreciate your being so helpful, especially since you're pregnant!!" And then she shoved a photocopy (one of those slimy old ones) of "To the King's Taste" at me as a Grithmas present that year.
3. Favorite city?
   York. Or maybe Edinburgh. Or possibly Toronto. My favorite place to go to events was (and might still be, but I haven't been there in too many years) Caer Anterth Mawr.
4. Dogs or cats?
   Cats. Better when I can let them be indoor-outdoor.
5. Favorite comfort food that you cook when you need a pick-me-up?
   That's really hard, because I'm trying so hard not to reward myself with food & break the cycle that leads to obesity. Tapioca pudding is the big one. (I make it with fat-free milk and half-Splenda these days.) The other one isn't cooked: it's Denali Moose Tracks ice cream.
