Grrr.

I guess I need a new starter battery in my Civic Hybrid. After sitting while we were driving around the country, it now has refused to start twice. No lights on, nothing except the darn thing won't start. AAA jumped it last Monday; today I was leaving the house at 6:15 am to go get cash for Duncan from the cash machine for his Scout trip to ( Read more... )

Have you talked with the rocket scientists at Honda about it? Karen's prius does bizarre things which the dedicated mechanics know all about, and it mystifies regular mechanics. Maybe this thing of the civic is similar?

Phew! My faithful old Peugeot passed it's MOT yesterday starshineway October 7 2006, 19:11:29 UTC
Ok - I had to get a new exhaust for it - but at least it is on the road for another year for some £120's spending and £44.15 is for the test itself!

Don't assume that it's a battery. When I had trouble like that with my old Corolla, it was the alternator: the battery was perfectly good, but the defective alternator wasn't charging it properly. Of course, things might be different on a hybrid.

I know, I have to get it to the repair shop. Sigh. My first thought was the alternator, actually, but the service folk suggested the battery. Since it's happened twice, I think going back to the original theory may be a good move.

Regular mechanics don't know about the new technology. The dealer is likely to be your best option.

How old is the vehicle? This may be a warranty issue.

I always use the dealer, as the mechanic I use for the Van doesn't want to do regular maintenance on the hybrid to avoid voiding the warranty.

It's only 2.5 years old; I've got a 10 years/100,000 end to end warranty on it. So it will go to the dealer...
