I remember now, why I was the weird one for traveling back in the Midrealm
I've been in contact with people I'd love to see at Linda's Coronation, and most of them think that going to Pennsic is closer than going to SD... Sigh. Well, it will be exciting anyway. I'm still excited about going. But it makes it clearer why people are so excited that we would come out from California! ;-)
Reminds me, also, why folks in Calontir felt so isolated from the "central kingdom." Ohio and Southern MI thought they were the center of the world, but by geographic measurement the center was somewhere west of Chicago....
Which reminds me of a conversation Dunc and I had the other day, about how measuring anything by "no more than 3 hours travel" was such an unwise idea in California.... I've been stuck between Pollack Pines (20 miles east) and Sunrise Blvd (25 miles west of my exit on 50) for 3 hours in horrible Sunday traffic. (It once took me from 1:45 to 3:15 to get back from dropping Duncan at camp in Pollack Pines...) Measure by miles is better, with a caveat about the traffic...
