Got my electric bill.
My usage last month was 816 kwh, less than last month, even granted we were gone 10 days (Jen turned the heat up one day and so it continued to cycle in the normal set-back pattern most of the time we were gone, sigh). Our actual bill this month (as opposed to my equal payment amount) was $115, as opposed to the $157 last month, with no rise in cost of power. If I set up the equation right, that's about 34% - right?
Usage for Dec this year, with the same number of degree days in the month, was 30% lower than last year. Granted we did fewer loads of laundry, etc. But the fiendish plot to kill off excess electricity seems to be working. Get those vampires!
My radical policy of turning off the heat during the day (and wearing a heavier sweater if necessary, but the house rarely drops below 65) unless the temp gets to 62 and setting the set-back temp for the night at 56 is conserving propane; I've still got 40% in the tank from the last fill despite an average of significantly lower temps this month. We've got another layer of quilts on the beds, but that's what they are for, right?
I'm still struggling with the issue of all the woodsmoke in the area; I'm running HEPA filters in the main rooms and our bedrooms almost continuously.(Note to self, wash the furnace filter over the weekend.)
But, despite everything, I feel proud. And especially proud of Duncan, who's helping mindfully.
