So, I have been a huge dork of a KISS fan my entire life. My dad took me to see them on the "Rock And Roll Over" tour in 1977 ....I was 3.

I still am and will always be a huge fan, but here is the review of the new KISS album "Monster" I sent to a couple of other dorks I know.

It baffles me that Gene Simmons use of pun and idiom has not advanced. By this point he should be able to spout euphemisms that unravel like Merlin casting a magic spell. The sex puns should bounce off the mind like an MC Escher drawing, I mean they've had the time to perfect it. Unfortunately he's maintained the mental gymnastics of a hardcore Anime fan who was smart enough to have graduated early but can barely brag about not being a virgin.

There is always at least one saving grace on a KISS album, one real inspired and true SONG ....usually a Paul Stanley song. I don't hear it this time around. The last album, Sonic Boom, just barely passable. I wasn't even sure why they decided to put that record out when just prior to recording it, Paul did an interview saying he thought making a new KISS album would be a pointless exercise.

One thing that has also annoyed me is how much they ape some of thier classic songs, a few chorus parts and riffs are lifted for new song pieces on this album and a few things on Sonic Boom.

There was that Destroyer Resurrected that came out about 2 months agp too. When it was first announced it was to be a pretty amazing deluxe set with a remastered Destroyer and a new "remix" by the original producer Bob Ezrin, a huge assortment of demos that were to be cleaned up and remastered and the cover was going to be Ken Kelleys first version, with different outfits ....also a huge book..... When it finally hit shelves, it went from 4 dics to 1 disc containing a mildly altered Ezrin remix of the album and only one alternate piece of a solo in "Sweet Pain" .....no demos, no live and the Ken Kelley painting was not correct. The more I looked into it, Bob Ezrin jumped started the project and as it made the rounds, the the interest from the band and the label. KISS hasn't even mentioned it since it came out.

I was only aware that a Destroyer special release was coming out, but I didn't know the details. When it came out I grabbed it for a listed expecting something major. It was hardly worth the effort. I had no idea it was meant to be such a major project. Talk about phoning it in.
