USPS has recently announced a bigger Flat-Rate Box (FRB). The Flat Rate Boxes are frequently used by military families and their supporters because the FRBs are often more economical than a regular shipment.
The new Priority Mail Large Flat-Rate Box (12" x 12" x 5½") will sell for $12.95 domestic and $10.95 to APO/FPO addresses. There is also a 5 percent online discount. According to their website, customers could begin using the new boxes starting on March 3.
Here is a link.
Please keep in mind that the new FRBs are very similar to the old 'shoe box' size FRBs. It is the same height but is 1/2 inch longer and about 4 inches wider. As a result, the $10.95 box has 50% more cubic volume than the shoe box FRB but only a little more volume than the 'shirt box' FRB. Because of the dimensions, this new box is probably ideal for sending canned goods and other very heavy items but may not be the best choice if sending, for example, books and DVDs.
