1. The Princes in the Tower, by Alison Weir
Nonfiction book on Richard III and the mysterious fate of his nephews, the rightful heirs to the throne. A follow-up to The Wars of the Roses, by the same author, which covers the first half of the dynastic struggle between York and Lancaster. Very interesting read about a period of English history I didn't know much about.
2. The Coldest Winter, by David Halbertsam
Nonfiction book on the forgotten war, the Korean War. Also, Halbertsam's last book. The story of the division of Korea, invasion, U.S. counterattack, and entry of the Chinese into the war, including Inchon & the relief of MacArthur. Entertainingly written, shifting easily from the grand geopolitical scale of presidents & premiers to the GIs fighting on the front lines. Excellent book & a great education on the Korean War as well as China, Mao, Taiwan, and the Red Scare.
