Each year, the
Democratic Party of McHenry County celebrates the legacy left to us by our Party’s founders. The fifth annual
Thomas Jefferson Dinner will be held on Saturday, April 17, 2010 at 6:00 p.m. at the Prairie Lodge of Sun City in Huntley.
Thomas Jefferson and James Madison founded the progressive political organization that is known today as the Democratic Party. They established the importance of protecting equal rights and insisted on defending ordinary citizens against the power interests of the aristocracy. These American principles have endured for two centuries.
Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan will be in attendance to accept this year’s Thomas Jefferson Award for Leadership.
Emele Peters is this year's winner of the Robert McGarry Award for Community Service. Emele is a 40-year resident of McHenry County and a long-time activist for numerous progressive causes. She is a former precinct representative, election judge and pollwatcher. She has volunteered with the Task Force Against Domestic Violence and the Community Crisis Center, and has served many other community organizations over the past several decades.
Bring a gift for the homeless
This year, attendees are asked to bring gifts of non-perishable food items for Public Action to Deliver Shelter (
PADS), a not-for-profit organization with a mission to provide emergency, transitional and preventative measures for homeless individuals and families of McHenry County. PADS is the largest provider of shelter and services to McHenry County's men, women and families who have unfortunately become homeless.
