With one exception, there are no contested races in McHenry County.
Voters in the Eighth Congressional District have no choice but two term incumbent
Melissa Bean after a potential challenger from the left was ruled off the ballot for insufficient signatures. Although she often votes with the Blue Dogs, she did support health care reform. In the Sixteenth Congressional District Freeport Mayor
George Gaulrapp hopes to unseat entrenched Republican Don Manzullo in November.
Local candidates include
Mike Mahon for Sheriff, Mark Freund for County Clerk, State Rep.
Jack Franks for re-election in the Sixty-third District, and Bob Kaempfe to face Mike Tryon in the Sixty-fourth District. Three candidates are on the ballot for County Board-incumbent James Kennedy in District 6, Jeff Thirtyacre making a second run in District 4, and newcomer Lori McConville in District 3.
The one contested race is for Illinois State Democratic Party Central Committeeman from Sixteenth Congressional District. I heartily endorse McHenry Democratic Vice Chair
Sam Melei over incumbent John Nelson and Mark Pietrowski . Melei has a strong vision for a dynamic, responsible State Party that is not dominated by the whims of Chairman Madigan.
Voters in Nunda Township Precinct 5 can return Patrick Murfin as Precinct Committeeman, this time running unopposed.
