Sigh.
Wish I had more to update, but the party leader had to attend a teaching conference and two other players couldn't make either, so those of us who did played board games all day. We had a good time doing so. Here's the games we played:
- Formula De - Formula 1 racing game where what gear you are in determines what size die you roll. In 6th gear, you get to roll a 30-sided die. Great fun!
- Puerto Rico - possibly one of the best general audience games available right now. Plays extremely fast with only 3 players.
- Settlers of Catan - normally a fun game, but this time the dice betrayed us. I think I'm going to burn them. Seriously.
- Web of Power - a resource allocation political game. Plays quick and enjoyable.
- Blue Moon City - a great board game with beautiful artwork.
- Tantrix - a tile-based game where you try to build the longest line or largest loop
Then we chatted about D&D games of old and the parts of the classic adventures we remembered best. Surprisingly, I find I don't remember actually playing through the classic D&D adventures (I'm talking about the early TSR modules). I know I did and I remember the contents of the adventures, but I don't actually remember playing through them. I have some memories of running some of them. I remember my college gaming career much better and clearly.
This isn't simply a function of time (I think). I think it has more to do with actively remembering or association. I don't play 1st edition D&D anymore and haven't for, well, decades. I actively play the same games I did in college (Hero System for those who are curious) and so I have more constant reinforcement of my college gaming memories rather than my high school and junior high school games.
Later!
