End of a Campaign

I wrapped up my World's Largest Dungeon campaign yesterday.  We played for two years, averaging one session a month.  The PCs were 14th level at the end, having taken a fairly short path through the Dungeon.

We learned many things while playing.  Sadly, most of them were along the lines of "Things Not to Do When Writing an Adventure".  There were also some things from the supplemental books that I'd not recommend using either.  The Book of Exalted Deeds and some of the Player's Handbook 2 chief among them.

I also experimented with allowing PCs to buy feats with experience points, in order to round out characters without requiring level advancement.  The result was powerful PCs that were in danger if they got hit and that sometimes could not hit their targets.  The cost was too low I think, costing 350 * (number of prerequisites+1).  This made a feat with no prereqs cost 350 xp and a feat with two cost 700 xp.  If I ever do it again, I think the multiplier will be much higher, like 1000 to 2000 xp.

Our next campaign will use the Pathfinder RPG to give that a shakedown.  I'll be posting session notes and a wiki over on Obsidian Portal to avoid cluttering this blog, but I will note here when session updates have been posted there so those interested can follow it.

The campaign world I'll be using to test Pathfinder will be the default campaign world for things I write for Run This.  I won't require other writers writing fantasy adventures use it, but bennies for those who do.  On that subject, you've probably noticed a lack of posts about Monohedron Games or Run This magazine.  I have not stopped working on those, but other things are cluttering my brain in front of them and I've got to write to get them out of the way.  When the muse grabs you, it is wise to follow that path rather than fight the flow.

That's all for now.  The next installment of the Epic of Epik will post either late tonight or sometime tomorrow.  I'm feeling a bit under the weather right now and I need sleep to avoid getting full on ill.

Later!
