A brief update.
My car was hit on Friday as I was coming home from my dayjob. No one was hurt, but the Super Gun Buggy (my gun-metal grey VW Turbo New Beetle - what? You don't name your car?) driver-side rear wheel is tilted about 20 degrees and pressing against the shock absorber. Today the other driver's insurance accepted 100% liability and arranged for my car to be towed to a shop and fixed and for me to get a rental car. All on their dime.
I have the rental car now, but the tow truck has not arrived to take my car to the shop. It should be here "soon". The rental is a Chevy Aveo with robo-nothing. Manual locks, manual side mirrors, manual seat adjustments, not dash indicators for gear, and time but no temperature. Not even a tape deck to plug my CD player in. (But an input jack for an i-pod or something. Dang Apple and their pervasive technology.) And tiny, tiny tires.
While I'd rather have not been hit, this is so far the best outcome I could have hoped for. Now if the shop gets my car fixed within 7 business days (the length the insurance company will cover the rental), I'll have my car fixed with no cost to myself.
Like I said: so far, so good.
Later!
