Technology

This is onna those "I'ma tell ya this story ta tell ya another" type. Late Saturday/Sunday morning, someone broke into my Dad's car via the window and stole the satellite radio and CD...cases. Not terrible, as we have insurance for the window, the radio is like $30 bucks, and all the CDs were in a sleeve visor...attached above the passenger's seat. Dad filed a report and canceled the radio, so it's now worthless. Makes the theft curious, more so as the guy knew enough to steal the remote and exactly the proper adapter, as opposed to the other in the car or simply both. He didn't just see a shiny, and he broke the back window. Someone interrupt him? Was he popping stupid pills that wore off really quickly? I dunno. Punk.

Some time ago, around 1, cops screeched by and pulled in front of a neighbor's driveway across the street. Not sure what it involved, perhaps something to do with the previous night's events. So I fiddled with Facebook to kill time and found the best use of technology ever...

To keep you in suspense , I hafta quote Dave Barry: "Without question, the greatest invention in the history of mankind is beer. Oh, I grant you that the wheel was also a fine invention, but the wheel does not go nearly as well with pizza."

So it has something to do with beer. And possibly the internet. Okay, you got me. Maybe some of you have already found MappyHour, a decent mapping program that aims to put together you and the closest Happy Hours. A few bugs in the programming, and limitations. Most of all, percentage wise, there are hardly any non-chain places to drink, particularly in the small towns; and the automatic list only goes to 50.

I signed up, checked some zip codes, and sadly saw mostly chains. When's the last time I'd gone to a chain restaurant for a really good drink or meal? I flashbacked to all the bars and other places I've had drinks over the years. Then I got to work adding a few local favorites. How many "fews" can a guy have who's only been 21 and not abroad for less than two months? I gotta go find the ones down here again before I go to the Midwest! Oblige me and help the cause, fellow social alcoholics, cause I'm finally quite tired.
