He hadn't been at the pub an awful lot after what had happened with Roy but this morning he'd come in early, going over his plans with the few people he'd shared them with, and had been up at the office ever since. Once he'd caught up on things, Patrick made sure everything would be all right for at least another week or so before heading ( Read more... )

Patrick smiled, gesturing vaguely with his fork as he swallowed his food. "It's almost cheesy, really. Or not really but, well, I'm not entirely sure -" He picked up his glass and took a sip before adding, "Clearly it's far too soon for me to have anything coherent to say about it."

"Clearly!" Brendan agreed with a smirk and small shake of his head as he continued eating. A few more lunchtime diners arrived, the small restaurant over half full. "Seems to do a good enough trade, considering it's a Monday."

"It's supposed to be a good restaurant." Patrick nodded absently as he examined the piece of chicken he'd just speared with his fork. "Perhaps you ought to buy the place, eh? That would certainly take care of my constant need of Indian food - " he murmured before finally putting the chicken into his mouth.

"Helluva drive though, every time you get a craving for it."

He waited until he'd swallowed his mouthful of chicken before snorting at Brendan. "You wouldn't just buy the restaurant, you'd buy a second house to go with it of course - " he said, only partly kidding and when he realized that he covered it up by nodding at Brendan's plate. "Let me try the goat before I lose my appetite, mate."

Brendan blinked as he looked at Patrick, surprised at the suggestion. He pushed the plate closer to the other, turning it a little so a large piece of the meat, visible in the rich curry sauce, was closest to him.

"Yeah, well, guess that would make the daily commute to work an interesting one."

"Well weren't you saying you wanted to use the car a bit more?" Patrick asked conversationally as he studied Brendan's plate.

Brendan laughed, shaking his head. "That's probably a tad more'n I had in mind when I said that," he chuckled, watching Patrick study his plate. "Having trouble deciding on which bit to try?" he asked lightly.

"I never had goat before," Patrick muttered, spearing a large piece of the meat with his fork and studying it from up close, his nose wrinkling up. "Never considered it either - "

"Supposed to be a delicacy down the Carribean," he told Patrick nonchalantly.

"Remind me not to surprise you with a trip to the Caribbean then," Patrick murmured before cautiously tasting the forkful of goat curry. "On second thought - " he chuckled after he'd swallowed his mouthful of, well, goat. "I always fancied going there some day."

"So our Caribbean cruise is back on again?" he asked innocently, grinning a little.

Patrick barely managed not to choke on his second mouthful of goat curry at the suggestion. Coughing a little he said, "A cruise? Right." He coughed again and shook his head. "Don't suppose we've ever been on a boat together have we, mate?"

Brendan thought for a moment and shook his head as he filled his fork again. "No, come to think of it, I don't think we ever have. Why? You got a problem with them?"

"That's one way of putting it," Patrick said after he'd swallowed another mouthful. He smirked and wiped his mouth before sitting back in his chair. "I reckon there's only so many times you ought to see me throw up, really."

Stopping mid-chew Brendan looked across at Patrick, then quickly cleared his mouth enough to speak. "Y' mean y' get seasick?"
