Whispering Pines

Jun 03, 2006 00:35

He hadn't been at the pub an awful lot after what had happened with Roy but this morning he'd come in early, going over his plans with the few people he'd shared them with, and had been up at the office ever since. Once he'd caught up on things, Patrick made sure everything would be all right for at least another week or so before heading ( Read more... )

Rolling his eyes and shaking his head Brendan took the keys and made his way to the back of the car, opening it. "Right, yeah, can distinctly remember the instructions. But it's alright, I'll get 'em anyway."

He picked up the two bags and closed the boot with his elbow.

"Well, lead on," he told Patrick, leaning down until the boot catch clicked.

"You know, I really never noticed you were an awfully grumpy person," Patrick commented before shrugging and indeed leading the way around the house to the front entrance only to be stopped by an immaculately dressed woman with slightly greying dark hair who came out of the house to greet them. "We say you driving up and since my husband will probably be drooling over your car any minute now I thought I'd go out and welcome the both of your first."

She shook Patrick's hand and exchanged a few pleasantries and told him they had to talk later on before turning to Brendan. "And you must be Brendan - welcome to Whispering Pines, I'm Celia."

A little puzzled at Patrick's comment Brendan followed him till they were greeted. Putting one of the bags down Brendan shook Celia's hand.

"Hi. Nice place you have here," he told her, looking around with a smile.

"Thank you," she replied with a smile of her own. "Even though I can hardly take credit for the surroundings of course." Gesturing towards the front door, she continued, "But do come in - "

Brendan picked up the other bag again and followed the others into the building. Polished wood floors gave the place a welcoming warmth, and large glass windows allowed the view of the woods surrounding the chalet to be seen no matter which way he looked. He let out a soft, low whistle as he grinned. "Very nice indeed!"

"Speaking of nice - " A round-cheeked, jovial-looking man looked up from his computer and smiled at them. "Your car definitely fits that description." He rose from his chair and greeted them, shaking first Patrick's, then Brendan's hand. "I'm HD - pleasure to meet you and while I'm sure my wife has done so already: welcome to Whispering Pines."

Brendan glanced across at Patrick, wondering at the man's sudden bout of silence, and whether he'd said or done something wrong as he returned 'HD's greeting. "Nice to meet you, HD. And yeah, it's a little beauty, isn't it?"

"It is," HD said with a broad grin. "If it wasn't for a Jeep being a little more practical out here I wouldn't mind having one of my own." He glanced at his wife as he spoke as if this had been a topic of discussion between the two of them in the past.

Celia merely smiled at him and guided both men to the reception area where she asked for Patrick's ID and then proceeded to finish the paperwork as she said, "I'll show you to your room in a minute and after that I could show you around the premises if you'd like - "

Patrick signed the papers he needed to sign and nodded, "Aye - that'd be brilliant."

"OK. Follow me then," Celia said after she'd collected the final paperwork from Patrick. "It's right up these stairs: you're quite lucky that there was a last-minute cancellation, because this is actually our most popular room - "

Brendan listened to Celia and managed to stop himself doing a double take, following the woman and Patrick instead. Most popular room... He wondered for a moment what it had that made it so popular.

Patrick had to smile at the obvious pride sounding from Celia's voice, they'd discussed the rooms over the phone and while he wouldn't have minded any of the other rooms he did find her enthusiasm amusing.

Even more so when she gave both men a wide smile as she opened the door, revealing a large room with a queen-sized bed, and plush carpeting, offset by floor-to-ceiling knotty pine. But as they stepped inside the room she immediately showed them the reason why this room was probably the reason why this room was so popular: the large jacuzzi tub under an actual skylight.

Patrick's smile widened slightly and if he hadn't already been convinced they'd enjoy themselves during this trip, he would have been now.

Brendan had followed the two into the room and was putting the bags down on the shelf for them when he looked up and saw the skylight. He paused before standing up again, eyes still on the ceiling as he let out a low whistle.

"Well, guess that's how you came t' name the room." He'd heard her mention the name as they approached. He glanced at Patrick for a moment before looking around the room. "Nice," he added.

"It is, really," Patrick murmured appreciatively as he stared up at the ceiling. Celia laughed softly and simply said, "Thank you - do take some time to look around and settle in." She walked over to the door and continued, "We'll be downstairs if you need anything and I'll gladly show you around later." She smiled at both men and before closing the door after her, she said, "We hope you'll enjoy your stay at Whispering Pines."

"Reckon we could find a way to do that," he murmured after she closed the door. He finally managed to drag his gaze down from the skylight and looked around the rest of the room.

"And remind me t' thank y' physio next time I'm there, OK?" he added, giving Patrick a grin.

Patrick grinned. "Why don't you come here and thank me instead? After all, this place doesn't appear to be that ungodly."

Brendan took the few steps to close the space between them, putting an arm around Patrick's shoulder as his gaze swept the room again. He looked at Patrick and put his other arm on the man's shoulder, joining his hands behind Patrick's neck.

"Reckon we can make it a hell of a lot more 'ungodly' according to a few people's assessment," he told his lover with a grin before giving him a kiss.

"And thanks. This had been a surprise, but a welcome one."

"Happy to hear that," Patrick murmured against Brendan's mouth before leaning in to steal another kiss. "And I suppose we could definitely try doing that, yeah." He smiled and slid his own arms around Brendan's waist, pulling him close. "Reckon we ought to start right now, really."
