The one comfort

What does comfort mean to you?

Curtains drawn, the door slightly ajar.

Not enough blankets to keep him warm during those cold winter nights. Not enough during summer either. Voices of his parents fading away as he pulls the blankets up over his head, his body curling in on itself. And yet he's still shivering.

Doors to the balcony wide open, a slight breeze, the curtains moving gently.

David's hand against his chest, pushing him away. No words and he rolls over again, and he closes his eyes, burrowing into the blankets again. A shiver runs down his spine.

Lockdown, lights going out abruptly.

Too many layers of clothing to feel comfortable. Not enough to feel safe. Rough fabric of the blanket making his skin itch, sound of approaching footsteps making his skin crawl. And he shivers.

Curtains drawn, the door closed.

A full body shiver, he twitches and rolls onto his side. Reaches back with one hand to pull up the blankets, sweat trickling down his back. An arm slides around his bare waist, holding him close. His body stills.
