Gentle hands moving across his back and while Patrick wills himself to relax, he simply can't get himself to do actually do it. The hands make their way down to his lower back and, just like before, his breath catches in his throat and he can actually feel every muscle in his body tense.
The hands still on his back and then disappear altogether. He doesn't have to tilt his head to the side and look up at the man, doesn't have to arch his eyebrow questioningly. Yet he does so anyway and the man gives him a tired smile and shakes his head.
"I'm this close to taking it personally, Patrick," the man says with a sigh. "You think you'd be more comfortable with a female therapist?"
Patrick doubts it, doubts that a woman doing the exact same thing will make him feel any less uncomfortable. Will make him feel any less like simply forgetting about the whole physical therapy thing and just going home instead. He promised though, promised Brendan he'd go through with it this time. So he nods and mutters, "Perhaps, I would, yeah."
