Slowly sheopened one eye to find her body contorted. Through eyelashes, she was able to see the blue gray carpet of his apartment. The blood had long ago run to her head, which was hanging of the side of the bed, so quickly she yanked herself up and reverted back to a normal sleeping position. Wanting to do nothing more than fall back into her slumber, she caught a glimpse of the boy, the young man. Sound asleep, he turned himself over, offering an arm in her direction, nearly swatting her in the face. She smiled. This felt true and marvelous. She rubbed his shoulder and placed her cheek on the small of his back. Closing her eyes, she remembered exactly what it was like. Her head rose and fell with every breath that he took, and she could feel his heartbeat. She counted them, and it began to form a tiny rhythm. That rhythm began to match that of her own heart, and as she fell back asleep, she decided it must have been real.
