Title: wood and clay will wash away, my fair lady
Fandom: LOST
Characters: Claire/Charlie
Rating: PG-13
Word Count: 108
Summary: She doesn't know how to mourn him. (prompt - sea, written for lost_in_108)

She has nothing left of him to mourn over, nothing but empty jars and a grave she digs with her own hands.

Claire wades into the water to clean off the mud, the cold guilt climbing into her clothes, her skin. She mumbles blurry i'm sorries to the angry waves pushing at her hips.

She moves farther in, foot slipping on a broken statue (imaginary bits and pieces of him trying to wash ashore). The sting of salt slides and burns down her throat, dripping down her cheek to mimic the tears she can't bring herself to cry.

(she wonders if he was even real to begin with)
