Title: dancing in the dark Fandom: LOST Characters: Sun/Michael Rating: PG-13 Word Count: 900 Summary: Sun doesn't believe that girl exists. (fic/art for ozmissage , who requested Lost Ladies at the Luau)
...FLAKY I LOVE YOU FOR WRITING THIS originally I was going to write them too, but my muse refuses to cooperate so I'm going to go full out on icons. But holy crap, this is freaking amazing.
Once she tells Sun, too smart, too serious, "If you married Uncle Mike, I could have a brother." This is what I always think whenever I think about Sun/Michael, oh man. Poor kids ;_;
Oh man, this is gorgeous hon. What a relationship here. I've always had a soft spot for Michael. He was just a guy trying to take care of this son, really. And you paint that here really well, along with Sun's complete 180 into the bad-ass we know and love.
"Stop pretending you can save me," she says, and she's taught herself not to cry.
Michael hasn't though, and a drop of water splashes onto her cheek. "Stop pretending you can't be saved."
I wish they would have handled Michael's (and Walt's, and Sun's, *sigh*) story better. His relationship with Walt was one of the most "please let them get a happy ending" on the show. And it would have been cool to see how he reacted to fierce businesswoman Sun.
This is amazing. The way you've created this relationship for them that's so dark and aching and absolutely believable is incredible. Everything's so atmospheric, and there are so many little details that I just loved, the way his hands are calloused and Sun thinks he tastes of salt and fish---it adds so much texture to the story.
And your characterization of both them was spot on. The way Sun's hardness was always there, but Michael refuses to see it made me so achy. And I love this line to pieces: For eight years they've been playing this game, a gun in her purse and a gun in his suitcase. The difference, she knows, is that Michael could never pull the trigger.
Oh and the art! GUH. It's all so pretty and each picture set the mood for the section beautifully. This is seriously amazing work, I can't thank you enough. It's hard enough to find any fic for these two, let alone finding fic this gorgeous. Thank you, this totally made my afternoon. :D
Thank you! I used to hate doing description (read too many books where it was done badly), but now it's really one of my favorite parts of writing, so I'm glad it worked for you. :)
I didn't realize how much I shipped these two until writing this. I wish more people wrote them, I think they have a lot of potential.
You're welcome, and thank YOU so much for the lovely words!
Thank you so much! I never thought about it that way, but now that you mention it it makes sense, that Michael, and their individual relationships and dynamics with him, really did help shape Sun and Jin's relationship with each other.
Oh my. THIS is the Michael/Sun fic I have been searching for for years. Each section captures things I love most about them: the first one where you explore silence and language, the second where you convey so beautifully the way he always wants to comfort her even when he's dealing with his own shit, and in the third, badass!Sun! And Walt! Love Walt. I love that they did it in the garden, I loved that you had her wanting to team up with him against the Others, and I love it that she retains her own O6 badassery and doesn't want him to be the "man" in the project. Seriously, this fic is so perfect and the characterization and everything. I hate what they did to Michael in season 2, because I really loved him so much. He was a great guy, and along with Kayid, this was my first ship, and I kind of never got over it, so thanks!! <3
Oh, thank you so much for the lovely words! I wish the show would have done more with these two (or that fandom would write more of them, ha), because they had such a cool dynamic in the first season. Really glad you liked it. :)

I just love the idea of Walt looking after Ji Yeon and being her BFF/surrogate big brother. They would be so cute. :)
