After a split second of non-focus the thing is bounced around then goes flying, twirling nauseatingly through the air before clattering to a halt, pointed at an awkward angle that gets the bed half in its sights. Chuck can be seen stirring in the bed

Wow, I think you might have broken the record for worst first week in Discedo.

[Chuckle.] I dunno, I mean- I slept through it, and now that I got something to eat I feel great.

Worst first week, I said. It only gets worse from here. Two weeks after I arrived we were replaying a blizzard survival movie.

[paterelohim]

...You can't just leave the story there.

You know, all the cliches from every survival horror movie ever. No supplies, people eating anything to keep from starving, so much snow we couldn't get out of the apartment buildings, no heat....

And then the buildings started collapsing on people. With no way to reach the hospital.

Like I said, it only gets worse form here.

[paterelohim]

Wow. [Nope, he's still kind of okay with this. No constant push of the infinite against his mind! No constant litany of billions of prayers flooding his brain to have to remember to tune out! No responsibilities bigger than don't be a dick! He can take something as measly as horrific dystopia in trade-off.] That blows. Should I start stocking up on toilet paper and canned beans now?

Usually a good idea, but take someone with you. What's left of the shopping district is still infested by some of the nastier monsters. Watch out for the demonic puppets and the exploding spiders.

Otherwise, there's a group of people who keep an inventory running in the high school. They try to make regular runs to restock it.

...Man, this place is weird. I need an adult.

Yeah, well. [Smirk.] At least I don't look like I'm out past curfew.

For your information, I don't have a curfew anymore. Mom got sent home again.

...What? Sent home?

Yeah. Sometimes people just disappear. A few of them have come back once or twice, so we figure when that happens they've just been sent back to their own worlds. Mom was here once before, and then she just disappeared. When she came back she said it had been a few months at home.

But there isn't any kind of pattern to who gets sent home or when it happens.
