"If Domino's Pizza founder Thomas S. Monaghan has his way, a new town being built in Florida will be governed according to strict Roman Catholic principles, with no place to get an abortion, pornography or birth control."

This may be because I just woke up and am still making my way out of a really weird dream, but my first thought was "Holy shit, it's like the Disney World from hell!" And then I started thinking about, like, what rides they'd have. They could call it Popey World, and there could be a ride like the It's a Small World ride that sings "Jesus loves me, this I know...", and there could be a scary ride called Sodom & Gomorrah with a height limit marker that says "you must be taller than this salt pillar to ride Sodom & Gomorrah"...

Now I don't think I'm going to be able to think of this as anything other than HILARIOUS.

Papa John's is better, anyway. They give Earlham discounts, and they have that magical garlic sauce.

Apparently there's some Disney-based planned community called Celebration in Florida. Combine that and Ave Maria and it gets even better!

not touching other that to say that the garlic sauce could kill me and I wouldn't mind.

I've been having a little fun with this at the expense of my upbringing, so I'm going to stop on that part. My entire family is Catholic, and while I've discarded the theology, I still identify strongly with the Catholic community back home in Chicago (ask David- he'll agree that whenever we get into Catholic vs. Protestant debates, I get fiercely defensive.)

This all has got me thinking. Why is it more or less acceptable to trash Christianity (specifically Catholicism) when people would get a much bigger backlash if they joked about some ridiculous Judaism theme park or something like that? I'm not even Christian anymore and I think that's pretty bogus.

By the way, happy birthday!

I'm gonna try to explain how I feel about it (at least right this moment). It may come across as being more offensive than I intend it to, but I hope that since you know me and that you know I'm not trying to be offensive, you'll interpret that as me trying to explain how I feel so that I'm being honest about where I'm coming from and better able to learn more and have my mind opened on this...not as me trying to excuse or justify being offensive ( ... )

Do I oppress you? I don't think that's fair. Not all Jews. Not everywhere. Not all Christians.

And above all, that's ridiculous. Making fun of something always hurts. So teaching your children that if you say "sorry" or "I didn't mean to hurt you" makes things better or that laughing afterwards and making whatever you say into a joke makes it fine to say something really bad is fine... Is horrible. It's the new bullying...

I didn't say "all Jews" or "all Christians" or that you personally oppress me personally. A lot of the religious beliefs you've mentioned are personally oppressive to me if someone who believes them tries to push those beliefs on my life, but you personally have not told me that I'm going to hell because I'm Jewish or queer, or tried to prevent me from being able to get access to condoms or abortions, so I would not say that you personally oppress me, nor did I say that ( ... )
