I think I've done this like, once before. But hey, I've always tried my hardest to give, so. Yeah. I already feel pretty given-to because
bicrim is my awesome Christmas elf and my kids have Christmas gifts coming because of her. Totally not being ungrateful! But I know my Christmas for me personally is going to be pretty empty, so yeah, here this is. Link me to your lists if you make one--I can't buy shit, but I can write fic and shit like that!
STEP ONE
Make a post (public, friends-locked, filtered... whatever you're comfortable with) to your LJ. The post should contain your list of ten holiday wishes. The wishes can be anything at all, from simple and fandom-related ("I'd love a Snape/Hermione icon that's just for me") to medium ("I wish for _____ on DVD") to really big ("All I want for Christmas is a new car/computer/house/TV"). The important thing is to make sure these wishes are things you really, truly want.
If you wish for real life things (not fics or icons), make sure you include some sort of contact info in your post, whether it's your address or just your email address where Santa (or one of his elves) can get in touch with you. Your home address is not required!
Make sure you post some version of these guidelines in your LJ so that the holiday joy will spread.
STEP TWO
Surf around your friends list (or friendsfriends, or just random journals) to see who has posted their list. And now, here's the important part...
If you see a wish you can grant, and it's in your heart to do so, make someone's wish come true. Sometimes one person's trash is another's treasure, and if you have a leather jacket you don't want or a gift certificate you won't use - or even know where you could get someone's dream purebred Basset Hound for free - do it.
You needn't spend money on these wishes unless you want to. The point isn't to put people out, it's to provide everyone a chance to be someone else's holiday elf - to spread the joy. Gifts can be made anonymously or not - it's your call. There are no guarantees with this project, and no strings attached. Just... wish, and it might come true. Give and you might receive. You'll have the joy of knowing you made someone's holiday special.
01. The house to sell quickly. I know this isn't something most people can help with, unless you know someone who invests in real estate or something, but the sooner I can get this albatross out from around my neck, the happier I will be.
02. A Blu-Ray player. Our DVD player died (I think Sam broke it while here on a visit) and the kids and I would love the new player to be Blu-Ray, especially if we could use our Netflix streaming on it.
03. Magazine subscription(s) for Gillian-I'm not even sure what I'm looking for here, just something to help ease her transition to a classroom setting and middle school, from a social standpoint. If not actual subscriptions just a suggestion or two of things that might help.
04. Puck/Kurt fic that doesn't use any of the worst tropes. No Kurt being surprised at Puck using his name instead of "Hummel," no "don't call me dude," no constantly-dieting Kurt. Something that involves Blaine being broken up with (not Blaine breaking up with Kurt) and vaguely season three compliant. I want all the fic. This is just one item but I will take as much fic as possible!
05. iTunes cards and Starbucks card refill. My sanity-savers.
06. The opportunity to wait to get to a job, to get a degree in something I can actually use for a job (a BS in a science field isn't actually useful, if you didn't know that), especially so Brigid doesn't have to go to daycare. This is already been hard enough on her. Not that anyone reading this has any control over that!
07. Weight Watchers. I love my meetings but I can't afford it right now and I need a good shot of want-to, anyway; it's hard to plan out good meals. But I really want to keep going one way or another.
08. Okay, more fic. I sort of put this on my Chrismukkah thing but I really want dom!Kurt/sub!Puck fic. It's not my boys but I want to read it badly.
09. Dog training for Starbuck. Anyone know anyone local who might do it for free or less cost? Gillian would love to do it with her and she's pretty good at what she's attempted in the yard but again, it's cost-prohibitive at this juncture (but not time-prohibitive).
10. Being really practical: grocery store gift cards. Publix and Trader Joe's are my top choices; Costco and Whole Foods would be awesome also.
So, yeah. You can email me at patchfire@comcast.net, or ask Morgan at morgan@mcfamilies.com
