As you all know, Australia is woefully behind with Criminal Minds - if fact, "Sex, Birth, Death" only just aired here last night. As such, we here in Oz are all fairly new to Emily Prentiss. And it has to be said - I love her. See, when I first heard that Elle was leaving, I was all "oh, well, that certainly sucks", because although she wasn't a particular favourite of mine, I always get attached to the original line-up in my favourite ensembles (or, rather, original as I know it - for example, I always liked Fin better than Jeffreys in SVU, because I didn't see season 1 for a while, I came in later. Not that I had anything against Monique, but it's Fin, y'know?). So I was all prepared to hate her replacement, despite the fact that I had no clue who said replacement was. Then Emily came along, and word from the US of A was that you folks all hated her. I abstained from making an opinion, resolving to wait till I'd seen her on our fair screens.
I saw the Infamy thing on youtube, and I totally fell in love with Paget Brewster - she just seems like the coolest chick around. When she was talking about David Lynch and asking "is he just kookalooka?" she just sounded so incredulous that I couldn't help but laugh. I vaguely remember her from Friends, but was convinced she was just what CM needed. This was confirmed by Emily's BAU debut - because I can totally relate. After all, she's a helplessly over-eager geek who should know better than to talk before she thinks, but kind of can't help herself. In last night's episode, she refused to take shit from Hotch, and was kind of hurt that he thought she'd do anything to jeopardise the team. She's a dork of the highest degree, and I love her dearly for it.
And Gideon. *sigh*. Watching him onscreen again just made me realise how much I love the character. Someone on another board mentioned his ability to profile people without judging them, and there's just something so fascinating yet serene about him. He's a tortured soul, but there's such kindness to him. Kind of like Gil Grisson without the cheesy lines (I love Griss and all, but come on). I'm sure Joe Mantegna will be fabulous, and like I said earlier, if he's less intense to work with than Patinkin, well, awesome. I mean, I don't like how Mandy left things, but i still really, genuinely hope that he's ok, and that whatever his reasons were, he can be happy. He's a great actor, and I'm grateful to him for portraying such a magnificent character.
So, Rossi, hmmm. From what we've heard, he's less of a gentle spirit than Gideon - shooting birds, while Gideon had an affinity for them. I'm not sure if I'm ok with that. As for his reported sexism, well, that should last about 4 and a half seconds around JJ, Prentiss and Garcia. These women will not take crap for long. And I can't imagine Reid or Morgan being big fans of it either, because they seem to be quite respectful of the kick-ass women they work with.
Ok, I'm done for now. Time to go home and see if my DVDs have arrived.
Patch out.
