I should have known better.
I petted a snake, what should I have expected?
But the deadly bite.
Two words, two fangs were enough.
To deliver the fatal venom.
I try to stand before the snake.
To show I am unafraid and not in pain.
But it is a lie in vain.
And my legs are too weak.
So I fall upon my face.
My body starts to go numb.
But continues to shake.
Because I feel so cold.
And although it’s day outside.
My open eyes only see darkness.
My breaths turn slow and rasp.
And now the snake’s hiss sounds like a demented laugh.
Because it knows what it’s done.
I twitch one last time.
Then everything is still.
And just like that my love is dead.
