I don't want to be overly dramatic, but I'm feeling a little disturbed at the moment. My hometown, Mirboo North, is currently covered in smoke from a huge bushfire burning about 1km away. No one in my family lives in the Boo anymore, but my parents still own a house there and I have a few friends still in the area. Boolarra, the closest town to Mirboo North, is on fire at the moment. It's bizzare. This fire is huge, it's already burned through 5000 hectares and is still growing and heading towards Mirboo North. The Strzelecki Forest just next to town is pretty much gone. Also there's been a bushfire about 5km away from where we live now, which has only just been contained. It's so fucking hot, I haven't slept properly for the last few nights, and work has been cancelled indefinitely as the observation wheel (a giant metal structure) has buckled under the heat. I feel like the world's gone all topsy turvey.
I really hope the fire gets contained soon, but it's so huge, and there's no sign of rain. I hope at least it manages somehow to bypass Mirboo North.
